Great buy
This is a great way for pain relief. Just note that you'll need to purchase some highly conductive gel at some point for the pads to stick to you

TENS machine
Never having used a TENS machine before, I found this one easy and discreet to use and effective for lower back pain. It has dual channels, but I have used just one side at a time. In practice, this enables me to place 2 gel pads in the painful area, leaving the other 2 pads for use elsewhere. The mode diagrams are not particularly clear when comparing it to the hand book for use. The machine has several modes, ie it can also massage, which can be programmed at different levels, but the diagrams used could be made clearer and simpler. The hand book lacks general information and advice about using a TENS machine, merely suggesting the user tries it for 15 minutes per day, although may need longer to start with. When switiching the machine on, it would also be useful if the face of the machine lit up for easier programming. I have used rechargeable batteries, but the manufacturer advises the user not to. They have lasted well and I have yet to explode! The gel pads, with careful removal and covering with the plastic covers provided, last well. Overall, this machine is excellent value for money, easy to use and one I would recommend, especially if, like myself, you haven't tried one before.

Defective -- does not turn on
I put the batteries that came with the device in CORRECTLY and it will not turn on. I will have to either 1)!go buy some more batteries and try them and/or 2) return this item to the vendor -- both hugely annoying and a waste of time and money. Plus -- no pain relief as the device will not even turn on. A massive waste of my time. Returning this tomorrow.

Good for short term / light use but not a long term usage device
Bought one of these off the shelf at a shop when my wife first started having back issues. Her physio had recommended getting one for home usage so we went straight to the store without doing any research. It served her well for about two weeks but it just isn't durable enough for long term or heavy usage. The timer switching it off after 15 mins annoys my wife greatly (as she needs to wear it a LOT longer). The display function is confusing and difficult - maybe not for someone with a clear head but if you're in serious page and foggy with pain killers, it's not the device for you. Eventually we had trouble with one of the leads just not working well. We changed the pads out and swapped the lead to the other plug hole but it still kept turning itself off whenever using that lead. Lastly, it's just so bulky - carrying it around and using on the go isn't discrete nor simple. Lastly, it runs on regular batteries instead of being rechargeable, which is just annoying. Giving it two stars because it did what it said on the tin initially but within a few weeks we replaced it with a slimmer, easier to use and more reliable machine.

Not the right TENS for me
I loved my last TENS machine and used it a lot for back, neck and IT band issues - until I wore it out. It was perfect but is no longer made. I bought this as a replacement but it's too sharp for me and feels like pin pricks, not the 'pushing' feeling my last machine created. This means that I tense up, no matter what the setting, as it hurts to use it.Hope to find a better fit soon. Depending on your condition and needs, this machine might work for you but it wasn't right for me. I liked the dual channel idea, though. That means it can work on two different areas at once e.g. lower back and headache-causing neck pain.EDIT: Since writing this review, my consultant recommended a Pro-TENS II which is also dual channel and does the trick. I'd definitely recommend my new TENS machine, although I wish it had a digital display to count down how much longer it has to run.

Good product
Glad to have received it at last. Not the seller's fault but City Link pretending that they attempted delivery 3 times. Such a pity that their driver doesn't know how to use a door bell or doesn't know how to write as no "missed you " notification as none were left!!!The item itself is very good. I bought it for my husband who reconigned its efficiency. His pain has been decreasing. We recommend it.

Effective for me.
I had borrowed a TENS machine during the summer when a ruptured disc bothered my sciatic nerve. It was great. So much so that my father in law bought me this unit instead of flowers when I had yet another relapse. The mode indicators are ridiculously unuseful; I went through them trying them out until I found one that suited me. The intensity goes from low to OWWW! I've not gone beyond 4.It's small enough to fit in a pocket but the clip isn't very sturdy so I wouldn't attach it to my clothes.I am truly addicted to this little machine. It has worked where opiates did not and without any side effects.Read the instructions carefully to see if it's suitable but I can thoroughly recommend one.
